Celebration of Nauryz at the Atyrau Oil Refinery

As part of the Nauryznama festival, Atyrau Oil Refinery LLP hosted a series of cultural and sporting events aimed at preserving national traditions and strengthening corporate unity.

The festive celebrations began on 16 March with the ancient Kazakh festival of Körisw (Көрісу), which symbolises the arrival of spring and the renewal of life. An ethno-village (In Kazakh it called “aul”) was set up on the factory premises. The staff exchanged greetings; a theatrical performance entitled ‘Amal Keldi – Zhyl Keldi!” (The month has come – The year has come) and a concert featuring traditional songs, kuys (a traditional Kazakh instrumental piece) and dances had been organised for them.

The young professionals also met with the plant’s veteran employees. During the meeting, the participants discussed career paths, and the veterans shared their experiences and offered words of advice to the younger generation.

On 17 March, the “Izgilikke Üles Kos” (Contribute to goodness) charity fair took place. Staff members presented confectionery, handmade items and toys. The proceeds of the sale went towards to support low-income families.

As part of the Nauryznama celebrations, a tournament featuring traditional sports took place. Over 40 staff members took part in competitions in togyz-kumalak (Kazakh logical board game), asyk-atu (Kazakh game for the removal of sheep's knee bones), bes-asyk (a five-bone game) and tug-of-war.

The main festive event took place on 20 March. Kuanysh Bishimov, General Director of the Atyrau Oil Refinery, congratulated the staff on the occasions of Nauryz and Oraz Ait (Eid al-Fitr), noting that Nauryz is the New Year of the Great Steppe and a celebration of spring, a time of renewal and striving towards new goals. He expressed his hope that the coming year would bring prosperity and happiness to every family.

After his opening remarks, the manager presented awards to the winners of the sporting competitions.

A concert was held in the ethno-village (ethno-aul), featuring the company’s artistic groups and local performers. Employees who had contributed to the promotion of national traditions were honoured.

The event concluded with a communal meal served on a dastarkhan (traditional Central-Asian low table or tablecloth) in the yurts of the ethno-village (ethno-aul)
